What we do

We provide a range of activities including tuition, science & nature activities for young children and topical workshops for older children.

Our activities are funded for young people who typically have less access to science learning opportunities.

Children’s Festival 2022

We are proud to have supported Purple Elephant’s Children’s Festival in August 2022.

We held workshops on rockets and explosions and inspected bugs under the microscope.

Over 80 children came along to join our activities with their families.

Climate debate

As part of the Green and Healthy Futures Frome Climate Conference, we held a workshop for teens to debate “Should we ban flying for 10 years?”

13-18 year olds from across Frome joined us to reflect on modern scientific developments and consider issues around climate change & the effects of human activity. They learnt how to discuss complex issues, consider different points of view and how to back up their opinions with facts.

The discussion was fantastic and the young people had lots of great ideas and points of view to contribute. They all agreed a blanket 10 year ban wasn’t the solution but suggested alternatives such as a domestic flight ban or a levy for frequent flyers.

Seedlings to Saplings

This group inspires pre-school children and their caregivers to engage in science and nature and to improve their health and wellbeing. Our activities promote engagement with the natural world and can be continued at home without the need for expensive equipment. We help caregivers immerse themselves in activities and re-learn to play. We support them in being present with their child and allowing their child(ren) to lead play.

We have fully funded spaces in this group thanks to sponsorship from Frome Town Council, the team behind Band in a Barn and local businesses such as Pearn’s Tree Services.

Holiday Activities

In collaboration with another local organisation, we run holiday activity sessions for families to enjoy our science activities together.

Sessions include activities such as pond dipping, nature walks, building bridges and towers, exploring the world of dinosaurs and making rockets.

Exams support

It all began for us in 2020 when we started supporting students with exam preparation during school closures.

Since then we have run online classes and workshops to support students with their KS3, GCSE and A Level exams.

Group sessions are an affordable alternative to 1:1 tuition and we offer fully funded spaces for students from low income backgrounds.

1:1 tuition

We offer 1:1 online tuition for KS3, GCSE and A Level Sciences.

Lessons are delivered by qualified science teachers and spaces are very limited.
